Emergency Preparedness
Parent Emergency Procedure Information (.pdf)
The staff members of Good Shepherd Lutheran School are well prepared for various types of emergencies. The school conducts several types of drills every four to six weeks in order to prepare students for what they are to do to remain as safe as possible during emergencies. GSLS participated in Marin County’s full scale emergency drill in April of 2005, which included all aspects of the drill including the safe and orderly release of children to their parents. We conducted this full-scale drill again in January of 2006.
All GSLS staff members are prepared to evacuate students to a safe area. Following the evacuation, some staff will then stay with the students while other teams of staff are assigned to one of the following areas: Light Search and Rescue, First Aid, Student Release, Crisis Intervention, and Emergency Command. Parent volunteers also participate in these drills and have been a tremendous asset to us.
Medications
The purpose of Good Shepherd’s Emergency Preparedness Plan is to ensure the health and safety of every child. If your child requires medication on a daily basis (or if in the case of an allergic reaction, an epi-pen or inhaler), we request that you provide the following as promptly as possible:
- A 72-hour supply of your child’s medication.
- The container must have the pharmacy label, clearly indicating the child’s name, medication, dosage and expiration date.
- Enclose the container in a zip lock bag clearly labeled with your child’s name as well as their teacher’s name.
- Please fill out the attached information form and turn it in with the medication, to your child’s teacher.
- This medication will be kept in the teacher’s emergency backpack and returned at the end of the school year.
