This is a very special year in your child's school career! First grade is a time to experience important transitions, remarkable discoveries and acquire new skills. During the year, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more.

Skills introduced in earlier years are nurtured to new levels of achievement as students grow in confidence and maturity. Inquisitive minds are encouraged to seek solutions and develop skills through hands-on experiences with a richly integrated and varied curriculum. We hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling!

The major focus in first grade is on Reading/Language Arts (writing, spelling, listening, speaking) and Math. Most of your child's school day will be instruction in these subjects.  Science, Social studies, Health and Safety also are included.  Special subjects taught by other teachers are Physical Education, Technology, Music, Art, Library, Garden, and Spanish.

The most important of all the new skills to be learned during first grade are reading and writing. One of my goals each year is to help the children grow as independent readers and writers and to develop a love for books and reading that can last a lifetime!

Social skills are nurtured through cooperative learning experiences and problem-solving strategies. Foundations for spiritual growth are built throughout the week through prayers, worship and scripture. Students are recognized as beloved children of God with unique personalities, individual learning styles and varied abilities.
